Pillar Point Morning

11″ x 14″ oil on linen panel

Each time I paint at the harbor in Princeton By The Sea it reveals a different character. On the spring morning I painted this, conditions were calm with sunshine that came and went. Here, I’ve captured the sunshine.

My painting Summer Evening Sail is part of the statewide salon style 2D art competition and exhibit at the Triton Museum of Art located at Santa Clara University. I very much appreciate that the Triton Museum is hosting the show. My thanks also goes to Aly Gould (Executive Director, Pacific Art League) who juried this year’s show.

Oasis

20″ x 16″ oil on linen panel

I was mesmerized by these native California Palms and their big skirts when hiking in Indian Canyons near Palm Springs.  In this piece, I am striving to create that sense of distance while retaining the feeling of being enveloped by the palms.

Western Redbud

8″ x 10″ oil on linen panel

I spotted this California native Western Redbud tree in full bloom on a bright sunny spring day at a park in San Jose. It was fun to try to catch the light airy feel of the tree and and the contrast between the reddish purple blooms and the all of the spring greens in the scene.

In A Rush

8″ x 10″ oil on linen panel

I painted this in San Jose’s Alum Rock Park along Penitencia Creek. My challenge was to try to catch the movement of the water and the interplay with the rocks.

Sausalito Schooner

9″ x 12″ (sold)

This is the first time I’ve painted the Freida B, a lovely Sausalito based schooner but I’m guessing it’s not the last. She’s captured here sailing towards San Francisco in front of Angel Island as the chill of the morning dissipates and with it the characteristic fog of the bay.

Shallows

11″ x 14″ (sold)

Pacific Grove is one of my absolute favorite places to take in the fresh air, listen to the surf and paint. Here, in addition to catching the waves, I was drawn to the subtle tones of the shoreline’s shallows.

Blush

6″ x 6″ (private collection)

As a painter, receiving a gift of flowers is a double delight. Great having the fresh flowers to enjoy and to paint. This view is from an arrangement of ivory roses with baby’s breath.
