White Lilacs

Our backyard lilacs were a wonder this year and their sweet fragrance added to the pleasure of painting them.

This was painted in early March at the marina in Berkeley. This was the last plein air painting I did before pandemic related stay-at-home orders went into effect. This boat was used for tours in San Francisco for 40 years.

I painted this on a shady summer afternoon in downtown Los Gatos while enjoying the chit chat of with pedestrians passing by. I was pretty happy with the painting of the scene but later felt it needed a bit more actions so added the figures in the Studio.

Coconuts and Sunshine

For me, nothing calls forth a memory of happy times like a backlit coconut palm swaying in a gentle breeze. Hopefully the coconuts stay put while we sip our rum drinks.

Off Season Alpine Meadows

I painted this plein air piece on a quiet road near Alpine Meadows early on a cloudy early morning.

Martis Creek

I painted this plein air piece in a spot near Truckee. The main portion of Martis Creek is a tributary to the Truckee River. I caught this bit as it wound through a marshy early summer meadow.

I was attracted to the bright colors of the kayaks and paddle boards at Shoreline Park and Lake where I’ve painted many times.

Ayala Pair

Angel Island (in the San Francisco Bay) is one of my favorite spots. In this painting, I was attracted to a snug pair of boats in the Ayala Cove Harbor. This piece was exhibited as part of the California Art Club’s Juried Exhibition “Bay Area Parks” in 2019.
