Coastal Cypress

12″ x 16″ oil on linen panel

In this plein air piece (painted just north of Half Moon Bay) is focused on the shape of the trees and profusion of foreground texture. I decided to make room for a sliver of the ocean in the distance to give us a sense of place.

Beyond West Cliff

11″ x 14″ oil on linen panel

I’ve painted at Natural Bridges in Santa Cruz many times. In this piece, there is only a hint of the archway. Instead of focusing on the opening in rock formation, I’m taking in the effects of the sunshine bouncing everywhere and the colors reflected in the water.

Spanish Bay Beach House

8″ x 10″ (sold)

I remember the beauty of driving along the 17 Mile Drive in the backseat of my parent’s car. These days, it’s a favorite painting destination. Usually I focus on the rocky shore. This time I took in the view of the bay with the white beach house set amongst dark coastal cypress.

Midday Stroll

8″ x 10″ oil on panel

The paved path in Pacific Grove with it’s pocket parks gives provides amazing scenery at every turn. I painted this on-site near Berwick Park. One of the buildings in the distance is the Green Gables Inn.

Beach Walkers

11″ x 14″ oil on linen panel

This view of China Cove in beautiful Point Lobos draws out attention to a couple walking on the beach below. In my take, I’m mesmerized by the green jewel-like colors of the shallow water as the light bounces off of the sand.

Crab Season, Pillar Point

14″ x 18″ oil on linen panel

In Northern California we don’t have snow to signal the arrival of the winter holiday season but we do have Dungeness crab. In this piece, I am celebrating crab season at Half Moon Bay’s Pillar Point Harbor. I love the way the sun as it lowers hits the crab bins along with all the activity as boats head in and out and unload their catch. The boat on the right is the Miss Moriah which I’ve already painted several times.
