Reflections of Half Dome

14″ x 11″ oil on linen panel

This piece was created on location in the heart of Yosemite Valley in early autumn. I have painted Half Dome many times. For this painting, I focused on the contrast between the towering iconic granite formation and the softness of its reflection with the rocks in the foreground revealing themselves below the surface.

Dancing Aspen

8″ x 6″ oil on linen panel

Nestled near June Lake, these two aspen trees share a quiet intimacy, their slender forms leaning gently toward one another as if caught in a delicate dance. I was drawn to the way the golden autumn leaves shimmered in the crisp mountain light, framing the trees in a moment of connection.— companions swaying in rhythm with the season’s change.

Windswept Arch

6″ x 8″ oil on linen panel

I’ve painted at Natural Bridges State Park in Santa Cruz many times. This time, I focused on creating an active expressive sky while observing the coming and goings of pelicans and gulls.

Beach Town

8″ x 10 (sold)

I painted this on a summer morning from a third floor terrace in Hermosa Beach, California. I was drawn to the glimpse of the sun hitting the coast beyond the palm trees and rooftops.

Lily Pond, Early Summer

9″ x 11″ oil on linen panel

” x Glenwood pond in Scotts Valley is near the home of one of my favorite painter friends. A few of us gathered up on a beautiful day to paint there. The water lilies were in full bloom, an egret stood watch over passing ducks and teenage boys tried to catch fish. Pretty much perfect.

Intertidal Morning

16″ x 20″ Oil on linen panel

In this piece I was interested in a coastal composition emphasizing the diagonals. I also hope to give the viewer a sense that their feet might just get wet.

Crossing Tenaya Creek

15″ x 15″ oil on linen panel

This piece developed from a watercolor sketch I did alongside Tenaya Creek on the way to Mirror Lake in Yosemite. Here, I’m striving to bring the viewer into the scene while capturing the movement and play of dappled light. There’s a particular atmosphere by a rushing stream rapid movement, varied colors and the play of dappled light.
