This view of the convergence of ocean and coast brings us to Spanish Bay in Pebble Beach. As a painter it’s so fun painting the mix of colors and shapes of our coastal shallows.

I’ve painted at Natural Bridges in Santa Cruz many times. In this piece, there is only a hint of the archway. Instead of focusing on the opening in rock formation, I’m taking in the effects of the sunshine bouncing everywhere and the colors reflected in the water.

In this painting I turn my attention to the early summer wildflowers in the foreground.

This was painted on-site in Point Lobos. While I worked away, I was amused by the antics of seabirds and sightseers shivering while taking photos at this well known spot on a very chilly July day.

I remember the beauty of driving along the 17 Mile Drive in the backseat of my parent’s car. These days, it’s a favorite painting destination. Usually I focus on the rocky shore. This time I took in the view of the bay with the white beach house set amongst dark coastal cypress.

The surf was wild on the day I painted this near the lighthouse on West Cliff Drive. While painting this, I was thinking of the rhythm of the repeating curving shapes leading to a result that differs somewhat from my most typical painting style.

I painted this to catch the feeling of a gorgeous rhododendron garden at a private residence in the Santa Cruz mountains.

This view of China Cove in beautiful Point Lobos draws out attention to a couple walking on the beach below. In my take, I’m mesmerized by the green jewel-like colors of the shallow water as the light bounces off of the sand.

In Northern California we don’t have snow to signal the arrival of the winter holiday season but we do have Dungeness crab. In this piece, I am celebrating crab season at Half Moon Bay’s Pillar Point Harbor. I love all of the activity and the way the sun as it lowers hits the crab bins. The boat on the right is the Miss Moriah which I’ve already painted several times.

San Jose has a lovely municipal rose garden. Each time I paint there it is a delight to choose a vantage point.
