So, is this piece about patriotism or a woman named Grace? I’ll leave the answer to you. Certainly, I’m leaning into sunshine and soft breezes.

I have painted the San Francisco Sea Scout vessel “the Viking” many times and I’m a bit surprised this is the only piece that includes it in this collection of small sailboat paintings. The Viking is based in Aquatic Park in San Francisco and it is primarily used to train young women as they learn to sail. In this piece, the spinnaker is up to take advantage of wind coming from behind to provide an extra push.

Angel Island is in the middle of San Francisco Bay making Ayala Cove a popular destination for sailors. Here, were catching up with them at the end of a beautiful day on the bay.

In this piece, I’ve focused on the colors and shapes observed in a small bit of the Half Moon Bay Harbor.

I enjoy seeing flags in harbors and on the back of boats catching the sunshine and the breeze. I deliberately exaggerated the size of the flag iin this one.

I’ve never been on the pirate galleon sunset cruise While visiting Grand Cayman Island … just not my thing. Still, I do think the “Jolly Roger” strikes a fine silhouette as it passes Seven Mile Beach.

In this painting, I’m playing up graphic shapes in remembering a day spent sailing off of Abaco in the Bahamas. Mostly I recall big smiles but there were sunburns too.

As I painted this the sun was breaking through fog. Fun to observe the activity at the entrance of the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor.
