I painted this early in the morning from a small dock in South Lake Tahoe just as the sun was inching above the treetops. A flag was up alongside the small cabin on the left and with Memorial Day Approaching, I had to include it.

I love oak trees. While painting this one, I focused on bring out the tree’s warm orange and red tones.

The Sea Scout Ship Viking calls Aquatic Park home and in this piece San Francisco unfolds in sun and shadow patterns in the background. The red SSS Viking is the boat used by young Bay Area women Sea Scouts.
If you have to be cooped up at home on a rainy day in April, it’s pretty wonderful to paint the fire in the mini Vermont Castings stove that’s in the corner of my studio space.
I’m not sure I ever really sorted out the focal point for this painting. The blooming white lilacs? The birch tree? Now, I’m thinking it’s the bright oranges in our brand new unstained redwood fence.
