I painted this while enjoying short painting trip down the coast with a friend. In this scene, I was drawn to the rocks that can be seen below the water’s surface at the base of this coastal bluff.

I painted this in early spring at Rancho Cañada del Oro Open Space Preserve and enjoyed trying to catch the feeling of the dappled light.

I tried to capture the feeling of idleness when painting this in Pillar Point Harbor near Half Moon Bay. Commercial crab season delays help safe passage of whales as the timing of migration coincides with peak winter Dungeness season. Still, it also brings hardship to those who depend on the winter catch.

The last time I painted at the Clos LaChance Winery in San Martin, I didn’t focus on the vines. Instead, this piece is all about the sky and that beautiful oak tree.

While painting this plein air piece in Fiji, I was focused on the shifts in the yellows between the sunlit areas and shadow along with the reflections in the water. The name of the yellow boat is “Rush” though I never saw it move (aside from the action of the tide).

I painted this piece at Lake Almaden in San Jose a couple of days after returning from a trip to the South Pacific. I think I still had kind of a palm tree sensibility going on.

I was drawn to the churn of the surf around this collection of rocks just below the Devil’s Slide area near Pacifica and the way the colors changes in the sunlit and shadow areas.
