I find painting redwoods to be really challenging. For this diptych I leaned into the height and focused on a few trees in a cluster.

I started this in a quiet shady spot next to the Merced River in Yosemite. As I was wrapping it up things got busy so when I look at this I happily remember the exuberant sounds of kids jumping into the flow from across the river. Perfect for a hot summer day.

I painted the 800′ granite tower on a beautiful summer morning. It was painted as a diptych with the lower portion featuring the Merced River.

I painted this on a sunny summer morning in Yosemite tucked into a small spot of shade. Realizing how beautiful the Merced river was with backlit greenery, I decided to include it as a foreground. That’s what lead my painting of The Rostrum to become a diptych.

I painted this the black bear from a photo taken near the Wawona Meadow in Yosemite. Spring brings wild raspberries and black bears into the meadow and reminders for all of us to drive alert.

I love the raking light as it passes over granite verticals and spring green trees.

It’s been a long time since I have made the hike into Glen Aulin Falls along the Tuolomne River in Yosemite’s high country. My main memory is wondering ‘how much further’ then suddenly coming upon the falls. One of the Yosemite High Sierra Camps is located close to this spot.

This popular view spot is near the El Portal entrance to Yosemite Valley. It seems like I’ve stopped here a zillion times. Each time the scene uniquely reflects the season, time of day and movement of the Merced River and the mood of this beautiful place.
