On warm summer days areas adjacent to Tioga Road can get a bit crowded yet you can enjoy a sense of solitude on the other side of the lake. A gentle trail surrounds Tenaya lake. A steep trail sets you off to the John Muir Trail.

I painted this from a footbridge at the base of Bridalveil falls. While I was in the spot things started to get busy so I decided to finish it up later at another spot in Yosemite Valley. Having blocked in the pattern of the lights and darks, I was able to incorporate the colors and feelings of the rushing water even though I wasn’t in the exact same spot.

There is a lovely level hike across the O’Shaughnessy Dam to the Wapama and Tueeulala Falls. One of the things I enjoy about this walk are the wildflowers. In this piece I am celebrating the lupine.

One of the first things you see upon entering the park from the El Portal is this natural formation. In Spanish El Portal means “the gateway” and I remember passing through this spot since I was a kid.

The late afternoon sun rakes across the meadow and glows in front of Cathedral Rocks and Spires. Elephant rock is the largest mass in the formation and it is huge.

This piece is focused on a canopy of redwood trees with a local falcon in flight. It is part of a diptych which takes in the full height of these tall redwood trees in Yosemite’s Mariposa Grove.

This piece is part of diptych focused on a few trees in Yosemite’s Mariposa Grove. I visited the forest for the first time in a long time and loved seeing all of the wild azalea flowers in bloom underneath the tall trees.
